INSTRUCTOR: David Kemp
“I began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in August 2001 under Peter De Been at the Gracie Barra school in St.kilda. Like a lot of people at the time, I saw Royce Gracie in the U.F.C (ultimate fighting championship), as skinny guy not just talking about how good his art is, but actually fighting and beating all challengers with his families graceful style. These days everyone who knows anything about martial arts knows about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the fastest growing martial arts on the planet. If you’re an M.M.A fighter, interested in self defence or just want to learn some skills and have some fun, Jiu Jitsu is a must. My love of M.M.A and my interest in self defence led me to Jiu Jitsu, but now I just love the art itself, the way the moves flow and how much fun it is to train. Someone once said, “the best martial art is the one you enjoy doing the most and the one you can do all your life”. For me that is Jiu Jitsu. I have grown to love competing in Jiu Jitsu, it sparks growth in your level of ability and I encourage anyone who trains to compete also. However this is not a requirement. Our team is undefeated and I have had success during my time climbing the ranks, most recently winning a gold at the pan pacs. I always learn something, especially when I lose. For me Jiu Jitsu is for people from all walk of life, I look forward to sharing my art with anyone willing to give it a try. See you on the mat!”
